Sale Results Archive

What actually sold, and for how much. Every closed sale is kept here with its full catalogue and the hammer price of each lot, so you can see what things really make rather than what they were estimated at. It is the quickest way to judge a fair price before you bid on something similar.

Use the filter to follow one auction house, or scan the whole archive to compare how the same kind of lot performs across different sales. Figures are the hammer price in the sale's own currency; the buyer's premium and any VAT are added on top, as our auction guides explain.

An estimate is a house's opinion, not a promise, and a result is what one buyer paid on one day. Read several comparable lots together rather than trusting a single figure: condition, rarity and how many people wanted it all move the number, which is why the same model can make twice as much in one sale as in another.

Reading a result

Is the result the price I would pay?

No. The figure shown is the hammer price, before the buyer's premium and any VAT the house charges. Add the premium to get the total the buyer actually paid, as explained in our guide to buyer's premium.

Why did a lot sell for more than its estimate?

An estimate is the auctioneer's opinion of what a lot should make. Two determined bidders can push a lot well past the top figure, and a scarce or desirable piece often does. The result is what one buyer paid on one day, not a fixed market price.

A lot I wanted shows no result — what happened?

It may have been unsold, withdrawn, or passed because bidding did not reach the reserve. Unsold lots are not included in the results, since no sale took place.

How far back do the results go?

The archive keeps every closed sale with its full catalogue and the hammer price of each lot, so you can compare how the same kind of item has performed over time. Use the filter to follow a single house or to scan across sales.

Can I use results to work out what to bid?

Yes, and it is the best way to judge a fair price. Read several comparable lots together rather than trusting a single figure — condition, rarity and how many people wanted it all move the number.
